Phillip and I are very intentional about building a successful marriage, and acknowledge that while we’re okay with just the two of us, we can’t build a tribe by ourselves. In this next phase of marriage we want to surround ourselves with other couples who are capable of pouring into us and encouraging us on our marriage journey.
In celebration of our one year wedding anniversary, we decided to create an EXPERIENCE that would allow us to connect with other couples in an intimate setting. We wanted to create a space where everyone felt comfortable engaging with each other and felt empowered to be openly transparent about their marriage journey.
We decided to book the Presidential King Suite at the Nylo-Plano hotel for our celebration. We both love the moody romantic atmosphere that the hotel boasts, and found it quite fitting for an intimate setting with couples. The suite had a private balcony, separate living area, a private bedroom, and loft-style ten-foot ceilings.
The scene for a romantic evening was set by decorating the room with candles, rose petals, and we intertwined bits and pieces of decor from our wedding. Food was catered by Bon Chon , one of Phillip’s favorite places to dine.
As guests arrived our photographer and videoographer Ernest Moments captured intimate portraits of each couple. Phillip and I wanted each couple in attendance to have a photo that we could give to them as a reminder of their love and commitment to say “We Still Do”, in happy times and even more so in those moments when we find ourselves struggling to love.
During the course of the evening, we ate, we laughed, and we played games. Later, things got a little more serious as Phillip and I shared some of the things that we had dealt with in our first year of marriage. Then we invited the other couples in the room to chime in and share their experiences and advice on navigating some of those taboo topics that sometimes leave you wondering if you’re the only couple experiencing those moments.
Spending our first anniversary with a group of couples who are just as committed to creating their very own love story as Phillip and I are was absolutely amazing! We are so thankful for all of the couples that came out to spend such a special evening with us. We can’t wait for our next #WeStillDo event!
We are excited to build our marriage tribe. We are even more excited to continue to create spaces that allow couples to connect with each other on a more personal and authentic level. Thanks again to all of you who came out and spent an amazing evening with us. WE STILL DO!
