My little brother graduates from high school today. The baby of the family, the last of the Mohicans! I can only begin to imagine how bittersweet this day is for my parents. It’s bittersweet for me as I think, WOW! My little brother is officially an adult now. Well… at least that’s how society will view him, no matter how inexperienced he is at life, the expectations of this world are for him to act and behave as though he is…experienced…from this day forth. Fair or not.
Reflecting on some of the stories we see in the news on a daily basis, I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a bit of fear in my heart. Will he make the right decision if a cop pulls him over? Will he give in to peer pressure when he finds himself in an environment that he knows he shouldn’t be in? Will he remember not to text and drive, or drive way to fast that he jeopardizes his life and the life of others?
Will he become a successful WHATEVER it is that he wants to be in life? I won’t allow my words to speak limitations over his life! Will he stand firm on the foundational teachings of faith, family, and self-love that have been instilled in him? Will he this…will he that… will he…will he will he?
Only time will tell.
But what I do know Malachi is that you will make mistakes, it’s impossible to get through life without doing so. I’m your big sister and I’m still making mistakes. But when you do make mistakes, I don’t want you to give up. I want you to fight with everything inside of you to overcome any negativity or obstacles that come your way. In those moments that look like defeat and even in those times that life is going AMAZING… I want you to always remember WHO YOU ARE, WHOSE YOU ARE, and WHY YOU ARE HERE!
From the moment you came into this world, God had already equipped you with every single tool, superpower, prayer, and activated strength deep within you to be an ACHIEVER! You were put on this earth for a purpose. It’s up to you to find and define that purpose.
We as your FAMILY….BELIEVE in you… SUPPORT you…are forever PRAYING for you. We’re so PROUD of you! But remember little brother…this is only the BEGINNING.
We’re sending you into this world equipped with the ultimate superpower pack: GOD. PRAYER. FAITH.FAMILY and of course YOU.
Never leave home without (YOU). That’ll make a lot more sense as you get older, and I’ll be here to make sure you understand.
